Bobby Caldwell was born in 1951 in New York.

He is an accomplished jazz singer and guitarist.

His parents, Bob and Carolyn, were the hosts of the television variety show Suppertime.

Bobby began studying piano and guitar at age 12.

He initially pursued a career in rock and roll but could also perform jazz and R & B.

When Bobby was 17, he took his band on the road to play the Las Vegas circuit.

From there the group relocated to Los Angeles, and recorded an album titled 'Kathmandu'.

In 1976, Bobby recorded one dance single for the PBR International imprint, entitled 'The House Is Rockin' b/w 'When You Awake'.

He then relocated back to his parents home in Miami, after which he signed with the T.K. Records subsidiary Clouds Records imprint.

At Clouds Records he began work on his 1978 debut solo album 'Bobby Caldwell', achieving a hit single with the song 'What You Won't Do For Love', also featuring the popular 'Down For The Third Time', which was popular with the U.K. soul scene.

He then released a second Clouds album in 1979, entitled 'The Cat in the Hat'.

Bobby then switched labels to the Sin-Drome Records imprint, (where he remained up until 2005) and 'Carry On' was released in 1982.

In 1983, Bobby released the album 'August Moon' (initially in Japan), which featured the song 'Once You Give In'.

He has developed a faithful following in the States and the U.K., however, his greatest success has been realised in Japan.

The singer's output has been very consistent since his debut album, including a 1996 album called 'Blue Condition', a collection of big band-era standards.

The Alfons Kettner/Bobby Caldwell song 'What You Won't Do for Love', has been covered by many artists, including, Phyllis Hyman, Roy Ayers, Victor Wooten, Jessie Ware, Pride N'Politix, Michael Bolton, Go West, Goldie and Intro, and also featured in the film 'Donnie Brasco'.

Bobby recently resided in New Jersey on a horse farm with his wife, Mary, and their children.

Bobby Caldwell died on the 14th of March 2023.

His wife stated on Twitter that ‘Bobby passed away here at home. I held him tight in my arms as he left us. I am forever heartbroken. Thanks to all of you for your many prayers over the years’.

Bobby’s health had declined following suffering severe side effects from the illness, fluoroquinolone.
