Chris Kenner hailed from New Orleans.

He was an R&B singer and songwriter, best remembered for two hit singles in the early 1960’s.

These were 1961’s, ‘I Like It Like That’, which reached number 2 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart (sold over one million copies and was Grammy nominated) and 1962’s, ‘Land of a Thousand Dances’.

He released an album on Atlantic Records in 1966.

In 1968 he was convicted of statutory rape of a minor, and spent three years in Louisiana's Angola prison.

Chris Kenner died from a heart attack in 1976 in a New Orleans rooming house, at the age of 46.
