Grace Jones

b. Beverly Grace Jones, 19th May 1948, Spanishtown, Jamaica, West Indies.

Grace Jones is a Jamaican based singer, actress and model.

Born in Spanish Town, Jamaica, Grace was raised by her grandparents.

As a teenager she, and her brothers and sisters relocated to her parents house in Syracuse, New York.

She began her career as a model in New York.

Grace then picked up her career in Paris, and became employed by Yves St. Laurent.

Cutting a striking figure, Grace appeared on the covers of Elle, Vogue, and Stern magazines.

In 1977, she expanded her abilities, signing a contract with Island Records.

She released the album ‘Portfolio’ in 1977, followed by the album ‘Fame’ the following year.

In the early Eighties, she teamed up with the songwriters and producers, Sly & Robbie for the albums ‘Nightclubbing’ and ‘Living My Life’ in 1981 and 1982 respectively.

She climbed the U.K. Singles Chart, with the tracks ‘Pull Up to the Bumper’, ‘I’ve Seen That Face Before (Libertango)’, ‘Private Life’ and ‘Slave to the Rhythm’.

The album ‘Slave to the Rhythm’ was released in 1985.

During this period, she expanded her C.V. further by taking up acting roles.

In 1984, Grace was featured in the film 'Conan the Destroyer' alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger.

In 1985, she featured in the James Bond movie ‘A View to a Kill’.

In 1986 she co-starred in the film ‘Vamp’, and featured in the 1992 film ‘Boomerang’ with Eddie Murphy.

For her roles in ‘Conan the Destroyer’, ‘A View to a Kill’, and ‘Vamp’, she was nominated Saturn Awards for Best Supporting Actress.

In 1983, she was given a Grammy Award for Best Long-Form Music Video.

bulletproof heart - 1989 / hurricane - 2008

Her recording career went on hold in 1989, following the release of ’Bulletproof Heart’, and she remained from the recording limelight until 2008, when she returned with the album ‘Hurricane’.
