Rhetta Young

b. Retta Young (a.k.a. Reeta Young, Rhetta Young), 1949, South Carolina, U.S.A.

Retta Young was a member of the Sixties group, The Superbs (not the same group as the Los Angeles based group).

She was also the wife of Al Goodman of the group the Moments.

The Superbs were a sister group of the male group The Superlatives.

Retta Young formed the group Retta Young And The Devotions, who first recorded on Silver Dollar Records, later to appear on the Wanderik imprint.

Paul Kyser wrote, produced and arranged all the tracks on the groups’ debut release.

Retta also recorded a solo album, and three solo singles (between 1975 and 1978).

Her solo album was entitled ‘Young And Restless’, whilst her singles were entitled ‘You Beat Me To The Punch’ (in 1975), ‘(Sending Out An) S.O.S.’ (in 1976) and ‘My Man Is On His Way’ (in 1978).

The Retta Young And The Devotions album was originally released in 1977, and featured the tracks ‘I Put A Spell On You’ and ‘The Saga Of Willie Jones’.
