Rose Banks

b. Rosemary Stewart (a.k.a. Rose Stone and Rose Banks), 21st March 1945, Dallas, Texas, U.S.A.

Rose Banks is the sister of Sly Stone.

She is an accomplished singer and keyboardist.

In the mid Seventies, she recorded under the name of Rose Banks, releasing one album for the Motown Records imprint.

As Rose Stone, she wore a platinum wig whilst performing on stage with her brothers group.

When Sly and the Family Stone took their first break from recording, Rose married Sly Stone's former manager Bubba Banks.

Rose signed, briefly, to Motown Records for her 1976 self titled album.

In the Eighties and Nineties, Rose took to backing session singing.

She recorded backgrounds for the likes of Michael Jackson and Ringo Starr.

In 1983, Rose recorded some Gospel material on Sandra Crouch's Grammy Award-winning album ‘We Sing Praises’.

Rose has worked closely with the music department of Christ Memorial COGIC in California in recent years.

She still collaborates with many secular performers, contributing to a recent album by U.K. singer Robbie Williams.

Rose was a featured soloist in the church choir in the film ‘The Ladykillers’.

Her daughter, Lisa, sings in a Sly and the Family Stone tribute band.

In 2006 she reunited with the original Family Stone, and more recently, she and her daughter have toured with Elton John, performing background vocals.

Today, Rose participates in her brother, Freddie's church.
