David Prater (b. 9th May 1937, Ocilla, Georgia, U.S.A. d. 9th April 1988, Sycamore, Georgia, U.S.A.)
Sam and Dave were two R&B singers comprising of Sam Moore and Dave Prater.
Formed in 1961 in Florida, they enjoyed moderate success, up until joining Stax Records.
At Stax they collaborated with the songwriting team, Isaac Hayes and David Porter, around 1965.

At Stax, they are best remembered for their hits, 'Hold On, I'm Coming' (R&B number 1/Pop number 21, in 1966) and 'Soul Man' (R&B number 1/Pop number 2, in 1967).
The duo disbanded in 1971, but reunited again throughout the 1970's and 1980's.
Sam and Dave were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
David Prater died in a car accident in Sycamore, Georgia, on the 9th 0f April 1988.
He was buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa, New Jersey.
Sam Moore died, following surgery at a hospital in Coral Gables, Florida, on the 10th of January 2025, at the age of 89.
