Brenda Shannon Greene came to the public's attention in 1984, when her single 'Let The Music Play' began to make waves of the U.S. and U.K. dance floors.
The single went on to reach the U.S. Top 10 and U.K. Top 20 dance singles charts.
Shannon grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and studied at the York College and toured with the New York Jazz Ensemble during 1978.
With the New York Jazz Ensemble, Shannon she met the drummer Lenny White, along with the group Brownstone, with whom she has recorded.
She was attending York University when she recorded 'Let The Music Play', (originally for Emergency Records), during 1983, whilst majoring in accounting.
Mirage Records, a division of Atlantic Records, picked up distribution of the single, which reached number 2 on the U.S. R & B charts and number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The parent album, also called 'Let the Music Play', was released in February 1984.
The follow-up single from the album 'Give Me Tonight' reached the number 1 on the R&B charts.
In the U.K., she gained two further chart hits with 'Give Me Tonight' and 'Sweet Somebody' both reaching the Top 30 in 1984.
In 1985, Shannon released her second album, entitled 'Do You Wanna Get Away'.

Her third album, 'Love Goes All the Way', (part produced by Patrick Adams and Robbie Buchanan), was released on Atlantic in October 1986.
Shannon asked to be released from her recording contract with Atlantic Records in 1987.
In 1999, Shannon appeared on VH1's 'Where Are They Now'.

That year, she returned with the album 'The Best Is Yet To Come', for the Contagious Records imprint, followed by 2007's 'A Beauty Returns' for Diggin' For Brown Records (Shannon herself being unaware of the release).
A greatest hits album had been previously released in November 2004 for Shout Factory Records.
In April 2006, Shannon participated in the Freestyle Extravaganza concert along with artists Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, The Cover Girls, Coro, and Stevie B.
Shannon is a voting member of the Grammys (Recording Academy), and performs around the world at various times.
