Sherrick

b: Lamotte Smith, 6th July 1957, Sacramento, California, U.S.A.

d: 22nd January 1999, Los Angeles, California, U.S.A.

Los Angeles-based singer Sherrick was given his professional break by Raynoma Gordy, former wife of Motown founder Berry Gordy.

Sherrick recorded wth the group Kagny and the Dirty Rats.

Raynoma secured Sherrick a recording deal with Warner Brothers where his Michael Stokes -produced debut album 'Sherrick' (1987), included 'Just Call' (UK Top 30) and 'Let's Be Lovers Tonight' (UK Top 75).

Prior to his debut set, Sherrick was the lead singer of the Motown group, Kagny, who recorded a track for the Motown movie 'The Last Dragon'.

Sherrick had also cut many tracks for the label as a background singer on various projects.

Having not recorded throughout the main part of the nineties, Sherrick began putting together some new songs when he tragically died on 22nd January 1999.

The cause was not determined.

The new recordings are not to be released at this point in time as his wife Lynne Conner-Smith (who is in posession of his most recent tapes) is wary of many record companies and their agenda's.

They were married in November 1993 and Sherrick left behind 3 children, Kiriandra, Paris and Chance Smith.

His siblings were Rochelle, LaRetta, Richard and LaVena.

Sherricks favourite tune, by the way, was Luther Vandross's 'Never Too Much'.

Quite why this talented artist remained out of the limelight, for such a long period, is a complete mystery.

Alledged rumours speculate that, apparently, the missing years were drug related.
