b. Leroy Roosevelt Bonner, 14th March 1943, Hamilton, Ohio, U.S.A.

d. 26th January 2013, Trotwood, Ohio, U.S.A.

'Sugarfoot' was born in Hamilton, Ohio.

He was the eldest of fourteen children and in 1968 formed a group as a means of earning much-needed money for his less than wealthy family.

This group which he wrote, sang and played guitar for became the internationally famed The Ohio Players.

After the group disbanded in 1977, Sugarfoot became highly in demand as a session guitarist, working with Ray Charles, Gladys Knight and Earth Wind & Fire.

Throughout his career he had also been friends with the late Roger Troutman of Zapp, and Roger offered Sugarfoot the use of his studio to experiment on a solo album.

The project included former members of The Ohio Players and was produced by Roger Troutman who took the project to Warner Brothers.

The album featured the popular ballad 'I Will Be Your Star' and a remake of the Ohio Players classic 'Fire', re-entitled 'Fire 85'.

In 2013, Leroy passed away from cancer in Trotwood, Ohio at the age of 69.
